Top Sanctions and Export Control Lawyer Rejoins Ferrari & Associates as Of Counsel

Press Release

WASHINGTON, D.C. (September 27, 2021) – Ferrari & Associates, a leading U.S. sanctions law firm, is excited to announce that Kian Meshkat has rejoined the Firm as Of Counsel. Mr. Meshkat was previously at the Firm as a Senior Associate Attorney. He now rejoins the Firm after spending several years as a Managing Consultant at Ernst & Young where he advised and assisted Fortune 500 clients in a variety of industrial sectors on compliance with U.S. economic sanctions and export controls administered by the U.S. Department of the Treasury’s Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC), and the U.S. Department of Commerce’s Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS). In that role, he also served as a subject matter expert to court and government imposed independent monitorships, pursuant to civil and criminal settlements, for the review and reporting of compliance efforts with applicable laws.

During his prior time at the Firm, Mr. Meshkat handled client matters as wide-ranging as OFAC and BIS licensing under various U.S. economic sanctions and export control programs, conducting internal investigations and preparing voluntary self-disclosures, administrative delisting requests challenging OFAC SDN and BIS Entity List designations, and litigation involving challenges to OFAC designations.

“I’m delighted to have Kian back with us. He was such a critical part of work for nearly half of the Firm’s existence, and he is especially well-respected and well liked amongst both the clients who worked with him, as well as his colleagues at the Firm.” said Erich Ferrari, the Ferrari & Associates Founder and Principal. “Kian’s knowledge and experience were already tremendously valuable during his prior time with us, and I know his abilities and experience have only expanded and sharpened in recent years.”

“I am very excited to have this opportunity to work with the Firm’s exceptional sanctions practitioners again, and leveraging my knowledge and skills to effectively counsel our clients in the ever-evolving sanctions and export controls regulatory landscape.” explained Mr. Meshkat. The Firm will rely upon Mr. Meshkat’s tremendous experience to provide ongoing advice and counseling on sanctions and export control matters, conduct internal investigations, and guide potential remedial measures to clients seeking to augment their compliance practices.

Mr. Meshkat’s return further strengthens Ferrari & Associates’ strong sanctions practice and adds significantly to the Firm’s knowledge and experience regarding export control laws and procedures, helping it expand its focus into areas that are ancillary to the sanctions work being performed by the Firm.
